Test ride

After we repair a bike we test ride it to make sure all is well. The guy who rides this bike is 6'9". I am 5'8". Needless to say it was a sweet ride. I just kinda sat one cheek on the top tube and pedaled my heart out.

Tony Pereira stopped by the shop to do an interpretive dance for us...... and he brought a bike that he made too. Didn't get any pictures of the dance, but plenty of the frame.

Sweet lurker photo, Tony.

Knog's tool

We just got one of Knog's multi tools in the shop to test out and see what we think. Atlin is going to throw it in his tool bag, mash, and use this tool when needed. I hear Sean in the back telling Atlin he should try to assemble a bike with it. You won't be able to trim cables, but that ain't no thing. He'll keep you posted.

21st Avenue Bicycles Logo Design Challenge

Old Logo: not so fresh.

21st Avenue Bicycles wants a new logo; it is time for something fresh. We are calling on designers and artists in our community to help us come up with something that will be featured in our advertisements, on our website, and will be used as a sticker on every bicycle sold through the shop. Needless to say we hope the winning design will have a ton of exposure. We would not expect you to do this for free; we are going to give the winning designer $100.00, a chrome laptop sleeve, and 10% off everything in the store for the life of the logo. In addition we are interested developing relationships with artists and designers for future collaborative projects.
We want something that looks both retro and modern, with a focus on clean lines and color selection. Icons we have thought about include Mt Hood, Roses, the Columbia Gorge, one of Portland’s Bridges, Fausto Coppi, Vintage Car Racing, Jean Vuarnet to name a few. The logo needs to be visible as a small graphic, something like the size of a 50 cent piece as this will be the size of our bicycle frame stickers. The shape of the graphic is not limited to a circle but all elements need to be visible with inside a 2” by 2” square.
Required Elements; this information needs to be on the logo.
- 21st Avenue Bicycles
- 916 NW 21st. Avenue
- Portland, OR 97209
- (503) 222-2851
- Make it Awesome
Make it Awesome is our shop slogan
The Contest will end on the June 1st
All submissions need to be in by May 22nd and the top 10 logos will be chosen by 21st Avenue Staff, we will then throw an evening event to present these logos to the general public who will in turn vote to help us decide on the final logo. The final winner will be unveiled June 1st to much fan fare.
For additional information or contact us at info@21stbikes.com if you have any questions
Thank you and good luck

Tiny Man

Rubin is small. Ethan is big. Ethan's bike is too big for Rubin. See?

Bike Lovin

This is a rare treat, indeed. Here is some interspecies bike mating. Our friends James is on site to collect samples to take back to the lab. I am not sure what the end result would be. A 50cc perhaps?

Atlin does Yelle

I am sure you have all seen this video:

Here's Atlin's version:

New bikes make the world go round.

This is a new thing we are doing, taking pictures of our rad customers and their new bikes. How stoked are these guys?! Ian put a joker spin on his Viva. Evan kept his Specialized as is and is thrilled. I mean look at him. Does he look stoked or what? The weather is getting nice and now these fellas are going to be riding in style.

Amanda at Tonic Fabrication

Wow. I am the luckiest girl on the planet. I know it's what every girl dreams about at a very young age: bike sponsorship. Landon and Tony have been a great supporter of the BLAM and are super rad at bikes. I love you Tonic Fab. I met up with Tony B at his work space to pick up my Supernaut and check out the progress on my cross frame. The shop was hard to find so there was that and I showed up with some beer for Tony B and it turns out he doesn't drink. Funny thing is, is I don't drink either. So, I felt a little of the dumb. Everyone.... he loves coffee. I was so excited to put my hands on my frame. It was everything I had hoped it would be. Baller.
My cross frame is the one on the far left and Atlin's is the 3rd one in.

Holy cow. Dreams do come true.

Overhaul's Open House

Last night was magic. A great day at the shop was followed by a sweet party. Jason and Erik from Hankbuilt had a great open house for Overhaul, their design company. Some of you may know that I (Amanda) got a sweet sponsorship from Tonic Fab, which I am super stoked about, and last night I was asked to join Team Hankbuilt and I accepted. I am very excited to melt some faces. I will be stopping by Tonic on Tuesday to pick up my Supernaut and take some pictures of the shop.

Kyle is creepy. Lucy and Natalie are cute.
James.
Jason. I didn't get a picture of Erik. My camera ran out of juice right when I got there. Bummer.
